Article: Shavuot - the day the Torah was given to Israel
|
|
SHAVUOT - The FEAST OF WEEKS
שבועות -חג מתן תורה
evening May 26th, 2012 - evening May 27th, 2012 (Hebrew Year 5772)
Shavuot
is the second of the three major festivals in which pilgrimage to Jerusalem is taken
place. Agriculturally, Shavuot is the
time when the wheat and the first fruits were harvested and brought to the Temple, therefore it is also known as "Hag ha-Bikkurim" (the Festival of the First Fruits).
Traditionally,
the feast of Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the day that God
gave us the Torah. The entire nation of Israel assembled at Mount Sinai and God declared
the Ten Commandments for all of Israel to hear, then God gave Moses the Ten Commandant written on tablets of stone. So Shavuot is also known
as “Hag Matan Torah” (the Festival of the Giving of the Torah); it is noteworthy
that this holiday is called the time of the giving of the Torah, rather than the
time of the receiving of the Torah since we are constantly in the process of
receiving the Torah, every moment in every day throughout our lives. Read more...

WE ARE BROTHERS AND SISTERS FROM ALL THE CORNERS OF THE EARTH;
YHVH shall scatter you among the nations;
(Deuteronomy:4:27)
We may each have different skin, face or hair...
We've been raised among different cultures and we may differ in our ways;
YET WE ARE ONE!
WE ARE "THE REMNANT OF ISRAEL"
The House of
Israel is colorful; our nation is made out of
many different individuals with different opinions and philosophies, the way that we each see or
understand our God is a very personal matter - and that's alright!
